Food was practically my bank, with a high interest rate. When I needed cash, I just sold as much of the stockpile as I needed. I kept my cash below $200 in the early and middle game, and invested in whatever was going up in price fastest - which was Food most of the time. Even if - and especially if - you'll be needing a particular resource in the near future, dump it when you see it going down, because by the time you need, you'll be able to simply buy it back in for less. When something is going down, dump it unless it's so cheap you'd be getting closed to nothing for it. When something is going up, sell everything else and invest in that one. At that point, I had already read the guides in the official Almanac and a few others on the net, and watched a few games on YouTube played by expert players (including guys who wrote parts of the official Almanac of the game). And the moment I started with Managing Expectations, I was overwhelmed by the awkwardness of the map and first-time choice of company type. Like many other beginners, I already struggled quite a bit with Proof of Employment. Rush to patent Nanotech, Teleportation and Thinking Machines.Heavy use of Mutiny, from early through middle to late game.Settle as first player, Robotic on Iron patch at the central eastern border.I also needed a couple of tries until I won this game.
